A search and rescue chopper from Happy Valley - Goose Bay was dispatched Saturday to help locate a couple of overdue hunters from Rigolet, Labrador.

Local RCMP got a call for help from a woman late Friday afternoon. Her husband and another man were 18 hours overdue from their excursion.

The helicopter was sent out at first light on Saturday and found the men after about 2 hours of searching. They were on the south side of Lake Melville, about 70 km from Happy Valley - Goose Bay.

The men had run out of fuel for their boat and had gone ashore to escape high winds.

The RCMP is reminding outdoorsman to adequately prepare for their travels and to consider taking hand held GPS devices with them.

Police would also like to thank the ground search and rescue teams from Happy Valley - Goose Bay and Rigolet, as well as the Maritime Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.
