• The last time George Murphy saw indications like this in his gas price prediction formula, hurricane Katrina was about to hit the southern United States. That was in 2005.  

Murphy is predicting that unless something drastic changes today or Wednesday, gas will go up by almost 11 cents a litre Wednesday at midnight.


• By the time her teenage son gets through a Janeway waiting list for an assessment and gets treatment for a learning disability, it may be too late to help him succeed in school, says a St. John’s woman.

“How am I going to keep him in school when I’m losing him already?” she asked.

The  Grade 10 student is on a wait list to see a child psychologist at the Janeway and then faces another wait after that, said the woman, who didn’t want her name used because his self-esteem has already suffered.

“He says, ‘I’m stupid. I can’t get it like everyone else,’” the woman said.


• The next chairman and CEO of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB) has yet to be named, although the current chairman finishes his term in less than a month.
