Charges laid for driving-related offences

A 28-year-old man was charged with mischief after providing RNC officers with false information during a traffic stop Tuesday in the central area of St. John’s.

He was also found to owe more than $20,000 in outstanding fines.

The man was also charged with breach of court orders, and several breaches of the Highway Traffic Act.

His vehicle was impounded and he was held in custody for a court appearance today.

In another case, about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, a vehicle was stopped on the Outer Ring Road in the Logy Bay area and the male driver was found to be driving while suspended.

There was no insurance on the vehicle, it had false licence plates and the vehicle was unregistered.

The vehicle was impounded and the accused released to appear in court at a later date.
