One woman and two children have been taken to hospital as a result of a five-vehicle collision that just occurred over the lunch hour in the west-bound lanes on Kenmount Road, west of Kelsey Drive, in St. John's.

West-bound traffic was completely blocked and traffic is still slowed in both directions. Tow trucks are now on the scene removing vehicles and emergency personnel are still trying to clear the scene. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

For every vechicle accident, the police should check cell phone records as part of their investigation. If the involved parties were on cell phone, they should be determined to be contributing factors at fault and dealt with accordingly. For those who would disagree with this and jump on the "privacy" bandwagon, the investigators would not need to know the content of the messages or phone calls, just the simple fact they were on the phone during the time of the accident.

I'll never get how there are so many collisions at intersections where all the dummies are being "told" what to do by lights......whoever is at fault should at their own expense, have to complete driving school again.

Responsible drivers can only do the best they can to avoid all the tailgating, speeding, innatentive drivers that we see every day.

I am a firm believer that many, if not most of these accidents are due to cell phones and texting. Several times I have been driving and noticed the driver next to me is texting while driving...seriously people, we know you are not staring at your crotch while driving...lay your phone down until you are parked somewhere where you`re not putting others at risk!!

Not surprising. Kenmount Road has become a very dangerous stretch of road since so many traffic lights have been added to accommodate all of the new subdivisions. Many people are used to that road being stop-free from Mazda westward until recently. People who don't travel that way regularly can be taken by surprise by all of the sudden stops and cars turning where they never used to.....

..."something has to be done..." I'm thankful you didn't blame the government for stupid drivers who tailgate and run lights. In the meantime these types of on/offs to subdivisions from main arteries stink! Proper overpasses or nothing, but that wouldn't bring more revenue to the money-hungry crowd at city hall.
