LEWISPORTE, N.L. — A couple of missing hunters were found safe today in northern Newfoundland.

RCMP in Lewisporte say the two hunters were reported overdue at about 1 a.m.

Police say a search boat found the men around 9:20 a.m. walking along the shoreline of the southwest corner of Dunnage Island.

They say the men had left a cabin at the eastern end of the island Friday afternoon and headed north to hunt for moose.

The Mounties say the men got lost after the sun set and walked for more than 8 kilometres before reaching the shore.

They say both men were in good health.

There is no excuse for getting lost in the woods. Map, compass, GPS and a little bit of knowledge.
