I must respectfully disagree with CARogers, its too simple an answer to always blame the parents. I don't know this individual or his Parents, so I will not pass judgement on their Parenting Skills. But a 14 year old should inherently know the difference between right and wrong. No one will ever convince me that a 14 year old doesn't know that it is wrong to hit another Human in the Head with a Brick. He did the crime let him do the time. These people have to be made responsible for their actions. The Parents may or may not have failed, but our wise Judges should not have the lattitude to compound the mistake by blaming the Parents, and letting this individual off with a slap on the wrist..

Here we go again...another violent 14 year old. Does any one teach their children any other way to resolve conflict except violence? Seems every time one of them don't get their own way its smash smack kick spit and punch. Why do our youth seem to have no other way to communicate. Perhaps no one communicates with them using full sentences and a logical explainations. Children learn what they see. If these parents spend their time cursing out the neighbours and "I'm gonna punch this one in the face" type talk, than they tnink that's how to get on out in society. And the court sends them back to the same parents who contributed to the development of that violent personality. No kid suddenly turns 14 andbecomes violent. They were allowed to throw their toys, they were allowed to run wild shout and interrupt, never expected to sit still and be quiet for anything, or anyone just let to run wild as little children before they ever picked up a brick. Absolutely no clue about simple right and wrong. A brick can and has killed others, are the parents just waiting for the judge to control their child, then complain about how thesystem has failed their family. If you got a 13-14-15 year old trying to kill others their age with a brick, you had a problem when they were 5, 7, 8, 10 years of age. All these out of control young teens are the reasult of poor parenting when the child was much much younger.

Another perfect example of 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. Children are no longer taught at an early age that violence is not the answer. They are allowed to do whatever they want without being reprimanded at all.
