House receives minor damage in early morning fire

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is continuing to investigate a house fire in St. John’s early this morning.

A house on Graves Street received minor damage.

The RNC and St. John's Regional Fire Department responded to the call around 12:45 a.m.

Police say there were no injuries.

Also, early this morning, an 18-year-old driver owing $15,746 in fines was held for court after a traffic stop on Penneywell Road.

The RNC stopped the vehicle at 1:35 a.m.

The teen’s vehicle was impounded and police note a ticket was issued for driving without a licence.

Around 730 a.m. the RNC street patrol responded to a disturbance in the area of Higgins Line.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault on his roommate. The man was detained for court.

The RNC responded to a total of 136 calls over 24 hours between early Monday morning and Tuesday morning.

    So glad this fire was only minor. So many of them are started at the stove, and so many are preventable. Stove Stopper is the best method of safety and prevention. Do this for yourself, your home, and your loved ones.

    Tell me how does a young person just having a licence maybe a little over a year already owe that much in tickets.In my forty years driving I maybe got a total of $300.00 or so.Something wrong with our system.I guess he may have never had a licence.
