The 911 Communications Center of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department has been experiencing problems with its phone service and has been advised that some residents and businesses have also been experiencing problems with their phone service.

A news release advises that, in the event someone is experiencing problems with their phone and requires emergency assistance, try one of the following: a mobile phone; a neighbour’s phone; a payphone; physically go to the nearest fire station; and physically go to the nearest police station.

If this started today, it might have something to do with the 99.1 hits fm contest. The 99th caller wins 10,000 dollars. a few times today when I tried to call someone, all I would get was dead air. Almost as bad as when Rex goudie was on Canadian idol.

Why no mention of the contest on the radio, I won't mention the station. There was an internal e-mail at Eastern Health asking staff to refrain and cease in calling the radio contest because it was crashing all the phone lines. I think the radio station in question needs to appologize for this, could have resulted in an avoidable tragedy.
