The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has granted an injunction against the NunatuKavut Community Council’s latest protest actions against the Muskrat Falls development.

According to a statement issued by Nalcor Energy, the aboriginal group has been named in the legal order, but the president of the NunatuKavut Community Council, Todd Russell, has also been specifically named.

“The injunction will allow Nalcor to continue its road construction work at Muskrat Falls without interruption,” the Crown corporation has stated.

“Nalcor’s priority is the safety of the public, protesters and individuals working at the Muskrat Falls construction site.”

Asked about the move, Karen O’Neill, a spokeswoman for Nalcor energy, told The Telegram lawyers went to the courts with the request this morning.

The action was not directed by the provincial government, she said, adding the Crown corporation did not go to the province to resolve the matter on its behalf. “We went through the legal process, not through any other means,” O’Neill said.

Citing a lack of consultation on the part of Nalcor Energy and the provincial government, Russell has been leading members of the NunatuKavut Community Council in “on the ground” protest actions at the gated entrance to the Muskrat Falls construction site since Wednesday.

An injunction against the Nunatukavut is great news. It shows Nalcor has no strength. The people of Labrador are the strong ones and we will stand our grounds this time, we are tired of been treated like the third world country . Been there ,done that. Labrador is a rich land and it is ours!! Tired of seeing our resources been taken with no benefits ,tired of seeing & hearing of all the people/company's becoming rich from our land. We are not finished yet ,it's just a start ....hope Government /Nalcor understand the message we are sending this time :)

Man, oh man! The hundreds of millions of dollars (your money and mine) already expended by Nalcor an an as yet to be approved project (yeah, rigtht) is the biggest theft in Newfoundland since Britain's Great Train Robbery.
