The Department of Transportation and Works is advising the public that the English Harbour East bailey bridge will be placed under a load restriction effective immediately until structural repairs are completed.

The department said, in a news release today, any vehicle in excess of 2.5 tonnes will not be permitted to travel over the bridge. It said the bridge is safe for public use, provided this load restriction is observed.

According to the province, ongoing bridge monitoring by the department determined a structural repair was necessary. Repairs are expected to be completed by Oct. 19.

When the bridge is repaired, the load restriction will be removed.
