• A fire in a St. John’s subdivision Sunday afternoon damaged five homes, destroying one of them.
The fire happened on Petite Forte Drive, located just west of Kelsey Drive. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department received a call from 911 at approximately 1:30 p.m. When trucks arrived at the scene, three homes were on fire, with 50 Petite Forte fully engulfed in flames.
“The roof was burnt off,” said shift-Supt. Derek Chafe. “Every room was burning.”
• MetroView 2012 Part II: Peter and Ronalda Walsh made a bold move five years ago that some of their friends still question — they left lucrative jobs in Ontario and moved back to Newfoundland when it was still a have-not province.
They say they were waiting for the right time. They now have their ideal home. Their son is involved in activities with good friends and their quality of life is at an all-time high.
“We’re living proof that we took the chance at the right time. We have a beautiful home, our son loves school and has great friends. It really worked out. We’re probably the happiest we’ve been in our careers,” said Ronalda.
