The Town of Conception Bay South received a Four Bloom rating and a special mention for The Manuels River Experience in the 2012 National Edition of Communities in Bloom.
The town was a finalist in the 20,001 to 50,000 population category. The national awards ceremonies took place in Edmonton, Alta. Oct. 12 and 13.
Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Evelyn Alemanni and Jim Baird wrote, “The Manuels River Experience started with nature trails, then international scientific research of the rich fossil resource and now an $8-million dollar interpretation centre is under construction with opening scheduled for spring 2013. This was all undertaken with local volunteer groups working together and securing the necessary corporate and government funding. The educational components are being designed in from the start. This will be a major tourist attraction for the town and the province. ”
Communities in Bloom is a national organization dedicated to the promotion of green spaces in community settings.
