The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Tuesday’s full edition of The Weekend Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Family section.

• The City of St. John’s is changing the way it taxes businesses, moving from two commercial tax revenue streams to one.

Coun. Danny Breen, chairman of the city’s finance and administration standing committee, said a brochure and letter has been sent to business owners accustomed with paying the business occupancy tax outlining how the new tax system will work.

“Effective, Jan. 1, 2013, we’re going to be blending the business occupancy tax and the business realty tax into one tax,” said Breen.

• Two youth delegates from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland’s mentor program are in Ottawa this week for the 2012 Big Brothers Big Sisters Social Innovators Summit.

“There’s 25 youth across Canada, including myself and Tyler, and we’re going to Ottawa I guess to discuss issues and changes we’d like to make in our provinces, and it’s giving us the opportunity to show that youth can and are making a difference,” said Danielle Henley, 18, a first-year student at Memorial University.

• Cutting an employee with a knife wasn’t in his plans when he robbed a supermarket last month. But James William Lucas was certainly ready for it, a judge said Monday.

It was the use of the weapon and the violent nature of the robbery that led Judge James Walsh to sentence Lucas to almost five years in jail.
