Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary drug investigation unit dismantled a grow operation Wednesday in the center of St. John's.

A judicial warrant was executed and RNC seized about 50 plants believed to be cannabis.

An investigation is ongoing and, according to police, charges of cultivation of cannabis under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are pending against a middle-aged St. John's man.

Meanwhile, a 53-year-old St. John's woman was arrested for assault at the Health Sciences Centre emergency department Wednesday.

She was detained at the St. John's lockup until a court appearance.

A 32-year-old man was also arrested in the downtown area for failing to pay a taxi fare. He was also charged with four counts of breaching court orders and was detained in the city lockup until a court appearance.
