Technologists in a Health Sciences Centre lab demonstrate how to test for blood type. Although there’s an automated machine that can test blood now, any abnormalities must be tested “on the bench” by hand. Dr. Lucinda Whitman, divisional chief for laboratory medicine (hematology) for Eastern Health, said in emergency situations O negative blood can be transfused to any patient, but, when time allows, the hospital prefers to test for blood type first to get an exact match.

    Too bad you can't make a donation in Labrador, donated blood 23 times while living on the Island but not once since moved to labrador.
