Exterminator does inspection, no others found

An exterminator was called into provincial court on the fourth floor of Atlantic Place in St. John’s Tuesday after a bed bug was spotted.

The bug was noticed near the holding cells door, just outside Courtroom No. 1.

Provincial court staff, including sheriff’s officers, inspected the area and didn’t see anything.

However, staff told building managers at Martek who, in turn, called PCO pest control.

According to provincial court director Shelley Organ, PCO did a complete inspection of the area at court and found one dead bed bug.

“They confirmed it was a bed bug, but found nothing else,” Organ said today.

“They told (court staff) they didn’t think they had anything to worry about.”

She said PCO inspectors suspected the bug came off somebody’s clothing.

“If anything else is seen, we are to contact them right away,” Organ said.

If necessary, PCO will have a dog come in within two weeks to scope the area again.

However, Organ said the situation seems to be under control.

“(Staff) and sheriff’s officers did another inspection this morning and saw nothing,” she said.

“There’s nothing to be concerned about.”
