Retired Canadian Coast Guard captain John Broderick explains the testing of a model of the new ship John G. Diefenbaker. Members of the media were invited to witness one of the tests as the six-metre scale model broke through a layer of ice at the National Research Council's Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering ice tank Tuesday.
