A 29-year-old man is dead as a result of an off-road vehicle collision near the western Newfoundland town of Piccadilly.
According to the Bay St. George RCMP, the man was in a single-vehicle collision shortly after midnight Wednesday and succumbed to his injuries at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville.
Members of the RCMP Vehicle Collison Reconstruction Unit, Traffic Services Unit and the Bay St. George detachment are continuing the investigation. The cause of the collision is still unknown and police are encouraging any witnesses or people with knowledge of the incident to contact the RCMP with any information they may have.
The RCMP would also like to remind the public that ATVs and off-road vehicles are prohibited from being operated on roads and highways. The RCMP remind people to contact their local detachments or call crimestoppers to report such incidents to the police.
Also Wednesday night, according to Trepassey RCMP, a 25-year-old man from St. Stephen’s was seriously injured in a collision involving an ATV and vehicle on the Main Road around 10:35 p.m .
Police say the man was believed not to have been wearing a helmet. He is reported to be in stable condition.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
Police would like to remind all ATV operators to wear their helmets when driving an ATV and to remain off of the roadways for everyone's safety.
