Thankfully nobody was injured after a propane explosion at the Freemason’s Lodge in Downtown Port aux Basques literally blew the building in two.

A propane explosion blew this addition to the Freemason's Lodge in Port aux Basques about 40 inches forward off its foundation. Nobody was in the building and no nearby homes were damaged.

Neighbors said it sounded like an 18-wheeler going through a building.

The front addition to the main hall was blown 40 inches forward off the foundation.

The explosion happened shortly after 12 a.m. on the morning of Oct 26. The Port aux Basques Volunteer Fire Department responded and had any flames out within five minutes, according to Fire Chief Jerry Musseau.

Residents of some nearby buildings were evacuated temporarily.
