Read our front page story of a woman who wants government to find more occupational therapists to help autistic children.

Here’s a snippet:

The mother of an autistic eight-year-old boy says the provincial government could be doing more to help children and youth dealing with the developmental disorder.

Regarding the article in Sat. Oct. 27th edition of the Telegram. I was so saddened and angered to read that the wait list for this boy was so long. My daughter and I experienced a similar situation. My daughter who is almost 13 was late being diagnosed on the spectrum scale. In September past, we receive a call from the Janeway regarding an appt. with the OT for that month. We were waiting two years exactly. So long that I forgot we had been on a waiting list! I welcomed the appointment because she is in a new school and having alot of adjustment issues, but unfortunately, the ideas that the OT has offered are a little too late for my daughter to "buy in to". It is so important for children with conditions such as autisum to be treated early in life. With that support early they can grow to be well adjusted adults who can contribute to society the same as everyone else. Not to mention, early intervention, could save these children from a lifetime of making wrong choices that could way heavier on society for the long term. It is time for the government to put the money into the future of Canada, our children.
