Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers in the Corner Brook region are investigating several complaints relating to vehicle thefts and incidents where items were found to be stolen from inside them.

A 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck was reportedly stolen from a home on Shamrock Crescent overnight Saturday. The truck is reportedly blue with a Newfoundland and Labrador licence plate number CEP 377. Police report doors were unlocked and keys were left inside the vehicle when the alleged theft occurred.

There were two vehicle break-in incidents reported to Corner Brook police where items were found to be missing.

A vehicle in the Greenwood Inn and Suites parking pot was reportedly entered sometime between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday. Missing from the vehicle were two pairs of sunglasses, an MP3 player, and a wallet containing personal information, credit cards and government-issued identification cards.

Another vehicle break-in reportedly took place that same day between the hours of 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. while it was parked at a home on St. Claire’s Avenue. Reported missing from the vehicle were a Garmin GPS unit, an iPod charger and $60 in Co-Op money.

In both cases, police said the doors to the vehicles were unlocked when the alleged break-ins took place.

Two 16-year-old males were also arrested over the weekend in relation to an alleged vehicle theft from a home on West Valley Road. Read a separate story here.

Anyone with information relating to these incidents is asked to contact Corner Brook RNC at 637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips  can also be provided anonymously through the Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Corner Brook City Hall has to start making a more diligent effort dealing with youth crime, including the pellet gun incident and now car break-ins as opposed to going after disabled people driving e-bikes like the Chesley Earle case. Secondly, with Corner Brook hosting the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in 2016, they have to crack down on youth crime to make their streets safer as well as ensure a safe environment for the athletes. Thirdly, maybe if Corner Brook invested more money in athletic facilities as opposed to focusing on elitist groups like Saltos Gymnastics Club, these violent crimes will not have happened.
