The front section of a car caught fire following a two-vehicle accident early Sunday evening in St. John’s.

It was a white Toyota Camry that was on fire following the accident. It was left facing south on Bonaventure Avenue directly in front of where the street intersects Pine Bud Avenue.

A witness at the scene said another person attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher prior to the St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s arrival. The fire department subsequently doused the car with fire suppressing foam.

There were no reports of serious injuries. One man was taken to hospital for observation, according to a spokesman for the fire department.

The second vehicle involved in the accident was a grey Ford Fusion. The car had come to a stop facing north in the front yard of a home on Pine Bud Avenue.

Fire department members appeared to be attempting to silence the horn of the grey car when The Telegram arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after 6:45 p.m. It was successfully silenced approximately 20 minutes later.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers were also at the scene. They set up pylons to force traffic on both streets to turn around.

That was an accident waiting to happen at that spot. It's crazy there in the mornings & again around 3 & 4 o'clock in the afternoon when school gets out. With the detours on Pine Bud, trying to access Bonaventure one is taking hugh risk. Too few cars on Bonaventure are allowing cars lined wayyyyyy back on Pine Bud to get onto Bonaventure. Give yourself lots of time to reach your destination to avoid taking chances. Needs traffic control at peak times. Scared to death there, myself.
