Forecasters say the Maritimes will likely see a couple days of grey, windy and wet weather as post-tropical storm Sandy weakens and wends its way past the region.
Jean-Marc Couturier of the Canadian Hurricane Centre says the system has diminished after battering the U.S. East Coast with heavy rains and winds.
Couturier says Yarmouth, N.S., and southwestern New Brunswick could see rainfall in excess of 50 millimetres, but most other areas in the area will see around 20 millimetres of rain.
He says the storm was weakening after waves near the West Scotian Slope and Grand Manan Island reached six metres, and gales were recorded at 70 kilometres an hour west of Nova Scotia in the Bay of Fundy area.
Nova Scotia Power reported outages in three areas that left about 1,400 customers without service, but many of those had been restored early today.
Couturier says the region dodged the high winds and rains largely because the so-called superstorm tracked away from the area after making landfall in New Jersey on Monday.
