Emergency responders got called to an incident that resulted in the death of an elderly woman on Tuesday morning. It happened in the Northern Arm Brook area of Botwood.

According Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP Corporal Doug Hewitt, next-door-neighbors of a 79-year-old woman heard splashing in the brook that ran behind their properties and saw that the woman had fallen in. Cpl. Hewitt said the woman, whose husband was not home at the time of the incident, was outside raking leaves, and appears to have fallen off a rounded, grassy bank into the stream. The local ambulance service was called to the scene initially, and the RCMP and Botwood Fire Department were called to assist shortly after.

Cpl. Hewitt said the woman was unresponsive when the ambulance arrived. He added there was no evidence that the woman had drowned, and she likely died of natural causes. The police investigation into the matter has concluded.

“It was an unfortunate incident,” said Cpl. Hewitt.

So Cpl. Hewitt says 'there was no evidence that the woman had drowned and she likely died of natural causes' .So there's no need for a pathologist to examine the remains.?. Thank you, 'Dr.' Hewitt.
