The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in Corner Brook is continuing to investigate a report of an assault with a weapon that allegedly occurred earlier today.
Around 10:30 a.m., RNC patrol services received a complaint from a business in the Murphy Square area. An employee reported that he had approached two male youths for acting suspicious when one of them suddenly produced a large machete and threatened him with it.
According to police, the youths then ran from the store and were apprehended by street patrol members with the assistance of the RNC police dog service unit.
As a result, a 16-year-old male resident of Corner Brook has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of a court order. He has been held in custody for a court appearance this afternoon.
A second youth, a 13-year-old male resident of Corner Brook, was released without charges to the custody of his parents.
RNC patrol services is continuing to investigate this incident.
