A 43-year-old man has been charged with numerous offences, including impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer, resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a police officer and several breaches of court orders arising from an incident Tuesday night.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, around 2:20 a.m., a witness in the downtown area called to report a possible impaired driver travelling west on Topsail Road.

Police located the vehicle near Columbus Drive. The driver was detained and taken to RNC offices in Mount Pearl.

The RNC said while in custody, the man resisted police and attempted to disarm one of the officers.

He was then conveyed to the St. John’s lockup and police say, while at the lockup, the man assaulted a corrections officer and caused damage to property, resulting in additional charges of assault and property damage.
