Man arrested for break-in, RNC still searching for stolen rifle

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a 35-year-old St. John’s man in connection with a recent break-in at a house on Oxen Pond Road during which a rifle and ammunition were stolen.

The accused is facing two counts of break and enter, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and four counts of fraud. The break-in occurred between Sept. 19 and Oct. 20.

The RNC notes that although a quanity of the stolen property has been recovered and returned to its rightful owners, police are  concerned about the unrecovered stolen firearm.

The RNC is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the firearm — a Remington 30-06 700 model rifle with an armsport scope.

The RNC is continuing to investigate this offence and is seeking the assistance of the general public. Investigators are asking anyone with information in relation to the location of the firearm to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
