Man charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend, possession of an axe

A 39-year-old man was charged Wednesday night in St. John’s with assault against his ex-girlfriend and possession an axe for a dangerous purpose.

RNC officers responded to the area of Chapmans Crescent in Kilbride at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, the male was in an altercation with his ex-girlfriend and had an axe with him.

He was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was taken into custody without incident and detained at the lockup for a court appearance today.

    This guy is very dangerous. He needs to be put away for a very long time before he uses an axe on this woman or some other person.
