A 29-year-old man is facing numerous charges, including assault with a weapon and sexual assault, after an arrest at a St. John’s residence last night.

Patrol officers and the major crimes unit of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the call at a centre city home around 6:30 p.m.

The man is also facing charges of assault, obstruction and breaches of court orders.

He was held for court.

The call was one of 221 the Constabulary answered in the 24-hour period ending at about 4:30 this morning.

One of those calls saw a 28-year-old charged with assault with a weapon as a result of a domestic dispute in the Kilbride area. The victim suffered minor injuries and the accused was held for court.

As well, a traffic stop in Mount Pearl led to a 23-year-old man being charged with failing to obey a stop sign, operating a vehicle with no registration and operating a vehicle with no insurance. His vehicle was impounded.

And, of course, there were nine armed robberies or attempted armed robberies noted here.

Every week we read that the police were called to over 200 calls this is every weekend,is it only me that think this is alot for such a small place. Most of these calls are to St John,s,Kilbride and Mt.Pearl.Not only is it for drunk driving, but alot of assaults, assault with weapons causing Bodily harm.I don,t know if the big Cities like Halifax or Toronto get that many calls.Time for our courts to make examples out these people, make our towns safer for us .
