A 72-year-old man from Kilbride died on the weekend as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle collision near Portugal Cove South.

On Saturday, around 2:09 p.m., Trepassey RCMP were contacted by Ryan’s Ambulance Service about a serious single-vehicle crash.

RCMP members from Trepassey and Ferryland responded and determined the vehicle left the road after failing to negotiate a sharp turn.

According to police, the lone male occupant was transported from the scene and later died of his injuries.

The investigation into this matter continues however, the RCMP said the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The RCMP is reminding motorists of the importance of wearing seatbelts at all times because they can drastically reduce injuries.
