Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for Tuesday for parts of Newfoundland, including the Northern Peninsula, the Terra Nova area, Bonavista, Clarenville and the Avalon Peninsula.

According to the weather office, a low pressure system south of Nova Scotia will rapidly deepen as it crosses Central Newfoundland on Tuesday. Strong southerly winds will develop over the Avalon Tuesday morning and spread northwestward throughout the day with gusts of up to 100 kms an hour expected along parts of the coast.

Environment Canada says potentially damaging winds are expected and is advising people to monitor weather conditions and check for updated statements.

There are also marine warnings of high seas building to four to six metres Tuesday morning.
