The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in Corner Brook Region is invesitgating a possible stabbing, reported to have occurred on Halloween night.
The RNC said in a news release that its patrol services division recieved an assault complaint Monday. A 13-year-old female reported that around 7 p.m. on Oct. 31, she had been walking on an isolated trail between Dunfield Park and Elizabeth Street when a male allegedly stabbed her in the leg with a knife.
The victim was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital where she was treated for her injury and released.
RNC Const. Suzanne FitzGerald told The Telegram the victim, along with the male, described in a news release as 12 to 13 years old, were walking together with a group along the trail.
"The people who were together know one another, so there's no public safety concern," said FitzGerald.
"The female did appear to have sustained a stab wound," she continued. "In the meantime, we're looking ... into whether it was criminal, but we're also looking into whether it was accidental."
