Another tip leads to impaired arrest

A tip about a possible impaired driver led to a 66-year-old man being arrested Monday afternoon.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to the Bowring Park area at 3 p.m. after the tip.

They located and stopped the vehicle on Brookfield Road and charged the driver with impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer, resisting Arrest and three breaches of court orders for driving offences.

He has been held for court. His vehicle was impounded.

It was the third incident in two days where a complaint from residents in the St. John's area led to impaired driving arrest.

Complaints from residents on Remembrance Day helped police make two arrests related to drunk driving.

They aren't punished severely enough.That's why you see drunks with multiple DUIs getting caught regularly. They may get a small fine or a one week driving suspension and are then back on the road again. Something tells me that if your first DUI resulted in an automatic 10-15 year jail sentence,we wouldn't be seeing many drunk drivers on the roads anymore. Time to get tough with these losers.

Fast becoming Newfoundland's favorite game show ----- it's Spot the Drunk! The only problem is that its so easy to "win". What a pathetic, backwards, time warp of a place.

Drunk/drug drivers of any motorized vehicle should have their picture and names published. Just maybe that might deter a few people before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, ATV, speed boat, jet skis, ski-doos, etc. And just maybe also it might save a few lives or serious injuries.

For the love of god what are these people thinking,3pm in the afternoon every child in St John,s on a school Hoilday the busiest park in town most likely it was packed that time of day.And why are they not identified? Time for our legal system to step up and do something this is an everyday occurrence,and it's just not young drivers.Impaired drivers are out of control.
