WINDSOR, N.S. — The man who wrote the national bestseller “The Puck Starts Here,” which made the case for Windsor, N.S., as the birthplace of hockey, has died.
Garth Vaughan was 84.
A native of Windsor, Vaughan passed away Nov. 7 in Cape Breton.
Prior to publishing the book, Vaughan organized the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society and later established the Windsor Hockey Heritage Centre.
While researching another book, Vaughan discovered the location of the Long Pond mentioned in Thomas Chandler Haliburton’s writing.
Long Pond is where ice hockey is thought to have begun in the early 1800s.
