The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a Corner Brook man in relation to an incident that occurred on a trail in the city in July.
According to police, a complaint was received on July 24 around 2:35 p.m. of an assault in a wooded area of the Corner Brook stream trail system, adjacent to the Cobb Lane and Marcelle Avenue area.
It was reported that a 16-year-old female had been walking alone from the Glynmill Inn Pond to Margaret Bowater Park when she was grabbed by an unknown male who attempted to pull her into a wooded area off the trail.
The RNC said other people walking on the trail system heard the girl calling for help before the male suspect fled the area into the woods.
On Wednesday, around 3 p.m,. as a result of an ongoing investigation by the RNC Criminal Investigation Division, a 29-year-old man from Corner Brook was arrested in relation to this incident. He has been charged with attempted robbery and forcible confinement. He has been held in custody and is expected to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook today.
