A 31-year-old man from St. John’s has been arrested by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in connection with an investigation into an alleged internet scam during the summer.

According to police, the RNC Economic Crime Unit arrested the man around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on an arrest warrant issued by provincial court in June.

The RNC said the warrant stems from a charge of fraud related to an internet scam. Police allege the accused was offering to sell items to another person he met over the internet through classified websites. Once he was paid for the item, he cut off communication with the victim and never shipped the item as promised.

The male was held in custody and made a first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Glad to see they are finally getting tough with these losers. Kijiji and other online sites are flooded with scammers usually from Nigeria. This is a local loser.
