Environment Canada is continuing its rainfall warnings for residents of St. John's and vicintiy, the Avalon Peninsula southeast and southwest regions.

Rainfall accumulations between 60 and 90 millimetres are expected by Friday morning.

According to Environment Canada, a low pressure system south of Sable Island will interact with a stalled frontal trough over the Avalon Peninsula before tracking slowly southeast of the Avalon Peninsula Friday.

"This interaction will produce rain at times heavy over the Avalon Peninsula today before tapering off Friday morning. Rainfall accumulations are expected to be highest for the Southeastern Avalon reaching up to 90 millimetres total by Friday morning. For the southwestern and Northeastern Avalon, total rainfall accumulations are expected to be between 50 and 75 millimetres."

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
