The 2014 Canadian senior baseball championship has been awarded to St. John's.

The decision was made late Tuesday night by Baseball Canada's Championship Committee.

The tournament will be held from Aug. 21-25 at St. Pat's Ball Park in the capital city. The Smallwood Drive Ball Park in Mount Pearl will be used as a secondary field.

Great news for Baseball in Newfoundland. With the Jays winning the world series this year ;) and then senior nationals at one of the most beaurtiful feilds I've seen in St. Pat's, Newfoundland Minor Baseball numbers will increase. Now if we could get a Memorial University Baseball team then numbers would shoot through the roof. About time baseball is more appreciated in NFLD

Good news for Baseball in NL and this leaves 18 months of planning and preparation for St. Pats ballpark itself. Stands, clubhouse, infield, mound, lights, dugouts, sods or turf - better line up corporate sponsors because it's unlikely city/province will fund 100%. Currently there are only a handful of paid advertisements in St. Pats - 2004 under then St. John's Baseball Association president John Janes and executive attempted to get more ad revenue via signs. Long story short various people committed to the campaign but it was never fulfilled, at least my dad got NTV where the old Greensleeves sign was. 2 Baseball teams from NL in the Senior Nationals? Perhaps a decade ago but it's better to have 1 decent provincial team V 2 old boys' clubs due to players infatuation with being an All Star. Upgrades to Smallwood Field in Mount Pearl would also be nice - new less intrusive backstop and a large wind barrier so fans wont freeze to death.
