A man originally from Ontario was arrested in Paradise Tuesday after RNC officers seized approximately 86 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $780,000.

Louis Trung Huynh appeared in provincial court in St. John’s this afternoon.

The 22-year-old is charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

He was taken back to jail, but will be back in court Thursday morning for what’s expected to be a bail hearing.

Huynh grew up in Woodbridge, Ont., but is renting an apartment in the Kenmount Terrace area of St. John’s.

Police picked him up outside a house in Paradise, which was searched by RNC’s drug investigation unit shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The RNC drug investigation unit is continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information in relation to this investigation is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be provided anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

86 pounds. 1,376 ounces. 38,528 grams. If it's high quality that'd go for about 15 a gram at street level. Therefore at most could be worth $577,920

yes it's stupid that tobacco and alcohol are legal and marijuana is not. A bottle of rum is "worth" less than $5 but sells for $35. Various levels of gov't get the money. Legalize the stuff and sell it at NLC stores. The gov't gets a load of tax money, the police have a lot more time to spend on more importnat things and a big chunk of local crime dissapears.

$780,000 dollars ''worth'' of a common plant. That amount is worth about 20 cents where it is legal. Organized crime must love Canada's drug laws, they're a license to print money.
