An elderly married couple died today in a house fire on Neck Road in Coley's Point.

The Bay Roberts Fire Department first arrived on the scene of the tragedy shortly before 2 p.m., and was able to save the dwelling from complete destruction.

There is some visible burn damage to the home's exterior.

All emergency crews have now left the scene, but it was a difficult afternoon for family members and emergency responders. Shocked family members could be seen comforting each other at the scene.

The remains of the two victims were removed from the home shortly after 4 p.m.

In addition to the fire, responders also dealt with bone-chilling winds.

Fire Chief Clarence Russell said he would be able to provide more details on Thursday.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Has the family agreed to the names being released? Yes, those close to the family know who it was, but unless their family has said to name them in public, perhaps this type of post could be withheld for the family's sake?
