A fire that destroyed an apartment complex on Booth Avenue in Labrador City on Nov. 4 is believed to be accidental in nature, the RNC has concluded.

The RNC says the visible evidence at the scene and the statements of people reporting and responding to the fire are consistent with an accidental fire.

“The cause and origin of the fire cannot be conclusively determined, but it is believed to be accidental in nature,” a news release states. “There is no information to indicate the fire is suspicious in nature.”

In the early hours of Nov. 4, RNC officers and firefighters from Labrador City Fire Rescue responded to the structure fire at the apartment complex that was under construction.

The unoccupied residence was completely destroyed.

Fire investigators at the RNC state the exact cause of the fire could not be conclusively determined, due to the extent of the damage.

Based on information of persons involved with the construction of the building, there were a number of tasks being performed and equipment being used that could have contributed to the ignition of combustibles. None of these possibilities could be completely ruled out as a contributing or major factor as these activities are normal for construction sites.
