The section of Trans-Canada Highway east of Clarenville, that was closed due to a rock slide last weekend, will be reopened Saturday afternoon, the Department of Transportation and Works has announced.

The rock slide had occurred between the intersection of North West Brook and Route 204.

Blasting took place throughout the week to ensure the structural integrity of the rock face where the slide occurred.

The department says geotechnical staff have assessed the structural integrity of the rock face and have determined it is safe to reopen the highway.

The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 70 kilometres per hour until permanent repairs have been made to the asphalt.
