Two impaired driving arrests on St. John’s street

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary made two separate arrests on the same St. John’s street related to impaired driving within an eight-hour span over the weekend.

The first arrest on Thorburn Road came shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, when RNC Patrol Services Division officers forced a vehicle to pull over. The adult male driver was charged with impaired driving, operation of a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit, and driving while prohibited.

The man was released to appear in court at a later date, and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, officers forced another vehicle on Thorburn Road to pull over. The male driver in this case has been charged with impaired driving and operation of a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit.

He was released to appear in court at a later date, and as was the case with the first arrest, the vehicle was impounded.

Now how about actually cracking down on the OTHER form of impaired driving? I must see someone driving badly (weaving in their lane, sudden braking or dramatically slowing down on the highway, almost going off the road) every time I drive! There are probably more people driving dangerously due to not looking at the road while texting than there are drunk drivers.

people never learn,and getting off with it is probably why.it's not only drinking and driving that's a problem.look at all the poeple who drive while stoned.smoking weed is adaily occurence for chronics,to the point where they leave a child in bed and go nextdoor for a '"draw",or do in the childs presence as i have seen.so crack down on the chronics as well as the drunk idiots.

Why don't the many people DRIVE & DRINK after, but not DRINK AND DRIVE after? I think the people must have BIG money to throw away, but deteriorated SMALL BRAINS that are probably not functioning.

This is an everyday thing in in the St john's area,it's not just one driver but sometimes 2-3 ,why do we even read about it,why is it even published,we are tired of listening to all the impaired drivers being caught,it's great that the RNC are doing their part but when are our judges and our courts going to do their part.
