A Paradise man who was banned from driving, but was reportedly caught plowing a junior school parking lot in St. John’s Thursday evening, is behind bars.
Craig William Lynch was led into provincial court in St. John’s today in handcuffs.
Duty counsel Jane Fitzpatrick and Crown prosecutor William Cadigan agreed to have the case set over until Monday for a bail hearing.
Lynch was taken back to jail until then.
The 36-year-old faces six charges — two counts of driving while disqualified, two counts of breaching court orders — one of which was to not drive, and single counts of resisting arrest and mischief, which were laid after he reportedly gave police a false name. Officers said he told them his name was John Lynch.
He also has a slew of Highway Traffic Act tickets, including driving with no registration, driving with no insurance and failing to transfer ownership of the 2005 GMC Sierra pickup.
It’s the second time Lynch was charged for being behind the wheel when he wasn’t supposed to be.
On Oct. 20, he was arrested and charged with two counts of driving while disqualified. He was supposed to appear in court on those charges Dec. 10.
Lynch, who has a 14-page criminal record, has had his licence suspended since 2007 and has in excess of $25,000 in outstanding traffic fines.
Lynch was arrested Thursday after he was allegedly seen plowing the parking lot at Beaconsfield junior high.
Police found him after reportedly getting tipped off by an anonymous citizen, who said Lynch had just left West Side Charlie’s bar in Paradise to plow the school lot.
Lynch made headlines in December 2007 following a bizarre break-in with a backhoe at an Irving gas station on the Trans Canada Highway, where he and another man, Robert James Pitcher, were charged.
Lynch was sentenced to three years for that incident after pleading guilty to 11 charges, including three break-ins, dangerous driving, impaired-related charges and several breaches of court orders.
A week later, he was convicted of a public mischief charge, which dated back to October 2007. He was given a 30-day jail term, which ran concurrently with the sentence he was already serving.
