The Telegram

The Telegram website offers only a sample of the stories our reporters, editors and photographers work hard to get to the public every day.

Friday’s full edition of The Telegram, on the other hand, contains much, much more, from news to opinion to our expanded Arts and Entertainment section.

• An American church widely viewed as a hate group for regularly denigrating homosexuals and people of the Jewish faith has targeted a local theatre production that debuted Wednesday night in St. John’s.

“The Laramie Project,” originally written by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project, tells the story of Matthew Sheppard, a gay man who was savagely beaten to death in 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming.

• A day after Raymond Gerald Newman was acquitted of murdering his estranged wife, public reaction to the news continues to swirl. Attention seems focused on the exclusion of evidence and the way in which the police collected it. However, Newman’s lawyer contends that even if the evidence hadn’t been tossed out, his client would still be a free man.

• A man with a 14-page (criminal) record, $25,000 in outstanding fines and no driver’s licence since 2007 remains behind bars after being arrested as he plowed a junior high school parking lot early Thursday. Craig William Lynch, 36, faces six charges; the company he was working for faces the possibility of losing the plowing contract with the Eastern School District.
