Those in the Green’s Harbour area next weekend can enjoy an old-fashioned time supper and a Newfoundland night out, as Fergus O’Byrne and Jim Payne present an evening of sea shanties, traditional music and the Green’s Harbour carols.

Many of the carols, like “God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “While Shepherds Watched,” have recognizable titles but unusual melodies, which O’Byrne and Payne learned from the Christmas carollers of Green’s Harbour.

Carolling is a tradition in the Green’s Harbour area.

“I’ve had this old casette tape for years and years, of this group of singers who, as a tradition, would go from house to house in the dark, singing,” O’Byrne told The Telegram last year, when he and Payne released “A Lovely Time of Year,” a Christmas CD containing some of the old carols.

“I’m not quite sure where the melodies came from. I guess over time, people just created their own melodies.”

O’Byrne and Payne had to put most of their Christmas shows as a duo, including the launch for “A Lovely Time of Year,” on hiatus last year, because of conflicting schedules.

The event will be held at the Green’s Harbour Community Centre Dec. 7.

Tickets are $15 for the performance, or $22 for the show and meal. Supper starts at 7:30 p.m. and the concert begins an hour later. Tickets are available by calling 765-8483.

When you play Green's Harbour you are either out of venues or you are "washed up" .

Or perhaps it is because some of the songs performed will be the Green's Harbour carols, as recorded on their CD Lovely Time of Year. Not sure what your problem is, but perhaps you should read up on things before you insult people.
