Finance Minister Tom Marshall announced today that residents of the province can begin applying for this year’s Home Heating Rebate.
Application forms for the 2012-13 program can be downloaded immediately from the Department of Finance’s website.
“With heating costs making up a significant portion of household budgets, the Home Heating Rebate assists residents with a means to offset those costs,” Marshall said.
“It is one of the most well-known programs that we offer and last year, 63,000 residents received payments. When you consider that we have also removed the provincial portion of the HST from home energy, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians saved almost $58 million last year.”
The parameters for the program are the same as last year with eligible households with an income of $35,000 or less qualifying for the maximum rebate of $250 ($500 for residents of coastal Labrador). A partial rebate is available to households with adjusted family income above $35,000 but less than $40,000, with a minimum rebate of $100.
