• There has been another quarantine at a salmon farm operation in the province.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) — lead agency for veterinary diseases — confirmed Monday it placed a precautionary quarantine on a Newfoundland salmon aquaculture site after routine testing identified a suspected virus.
• The wildcat strike this summer at the construction site for the nickel processing facility at Long Harbour included hundreds of individual tradespeople. On Monday in Supreme Court in St. John’s, two workers and a collection of trade union leaders were being asked to answer for the illegal action.
• Impaired driving charges laid by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary appear to be up by slightly more than 11 per cent.
As of Nov. 25, the force’s ad hoc statistics indicate 395 charges have been laid so far in 2011. That’s compared to 354 as of the same date in 2011, and 343 by Nov. 25, 2010.
