A 25-year-old man was charged with impaired driving after he was observed asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle in a driveway in the east end of St. John’s about 3:04 a.m. this morning.

A member of the public called the RNC.

The accused was released from custody to appear in court at a later date.

Reminds me of the nosy ol' bag on the TV series ' Bewitched ', who spent her time peeking through her curtains, spying on her neighbours. Kudos to drivers who notify police when they suspect another driver of being impaired, but notifying police at 3 A:M that your neighbour is asleep in his car, in his driveway ????.

If he had the cars keys he can be charged.

It's possible he could've simply left a house party and decided to sleep it off in his car. I can't see how these charges can stick without any solid evidence that the guy was actually driving while intoxicated.

To all previous comments below: I guess that's why he was charged with, and not convicted of, a crime. The details will hopefully come out later in court. Are people self-amused and entertained by jumping to conclusions? Talk about nosy neighbours with nothing better to do...

How do they know he didn't walk home from a party, forgot his door key and decided to sleep in the car?

How can you be charged with impaired driving if you are sleeping in a non-moving car??
