Const. Todd Hussey of the RCMP Placentia-Whitbourne District was awarded the Golden Spur Award today by the RCMP Foundation.
The award recognizes remarkable commitment to community.
Fred Semerjian, president and CEO of the RCMP Foundation, and Kelly Ledingham were in St. John's at RCMP headquarters to make the presentation.
A news release notes that since arriving in Placentia in 2007, Hussey has demonstrated a solid presence within the community. He has volunteered countless hours towards many community events and projects including the community food bank, family resource centre, school council, and the Special Olympics torch run.
Volunteering his time as a coach with minor hockey and softball, as well as a leader of the community Beaver Troops, he has quickly become a role model to the local youth with his fun, caring nature.
Hussey was instrumental in securing funds from the RCMP Foundation, providing financial assistance to the St. Anne’s Academy breakfast program, as well as Project Playground.
